Historiography

Long story short, I had to choose a historical site of New York City and write about its developments over time through a specific lens. I chose Manhattan’s Chinatown. I chose this site on a whim since I was in the area while thinking about my site and I didn’t want to choose Penn Station since somebody already chose it and I wanted to be original.

The first part was obviously research. I got my sources from searching on Google Scholar. I had to make an annotated bibliography which I hated doing but in the end, I found it useful as a way of tracking where I got my information from and knowing the general gist of each source.

After the Bibliography, of course, came the outline. It is important to note that I don’t use outlines normally and the outline attached works best for me, even though I was supposed to cite my information. Here it is:

Now, after the outline and some peer reviewing, I finally got to do my essay. For my essay, my main issue arose with condensing as I had a lot to say but only 8 pages to say it. It’s funny how I always end up having to condense my writing. Maybe I like to speak my mind or let my mind ramble on too much. Just something I noticed in all of my writing compositions. I feel as if this Historiography is a step up from the Learning Analysis and only because I had more to write on. The Historiography paper is below:

Now, I also had to do another model to show my findings and Historiography. For this, I simply used a visual essay of Minecraft. It’s been cut down to 5 minutes both because of my presentation time limit and because 5 minutes is more easily digestible than 30 minutes of talking about Chinatown. Overall, I did not expect my site to have this much history. I chose this site mostly on a whim but I ended up enjoying learning and piecing together Chinatown’s history. Who knew a few blocks could host such a deep history?
